Change and stories

She taught me this above all else: things which don't shift and grow are dead things L Marmon Silko. Found this quote that talks to me in several other books and movies, religions and spiritual beliefs. Because life is about change, and change is scary. Overcoming fear, by being afraid and choosing to do it anyways, does not guarantee success but neither opposing it by clinging to old stories, definitions and times. As we are those stories as them being a part of us and we are not. Stories, perceptions, ceremonies change. Life moves and we move with it. And how much from that travel we look back wanted to have a story unchanged or limiting ourselves by letting the old stories defining us- shame, fear and obstructing the truth. The truth we see but we dont want to, so we keep the story and the image of ourselves and others as we want it to be and as is and was not. And that goes against change.

We are all part of a larger story and connected in our stories, perceptions and experiences more than divided. And life is all around us- not in garden of eden but in anything alive. Not specifically human, not created by humans. Beyond good or bad something that is. No boundaries, only transitions through all distances and time.

If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. If you are not afraid of dying, there is nothing you cannot achieve. Lao Tzu
